Lions Legacy
God’s Provision
The foundation and overriding theme of this story is the goodness and faithfulness of God. Since 2006, Mountain Christian School has seen and experienced God’s provision over and over again. We chose the name Lion’s Legacy intentionally. We see this as an opportunity to put down roots on our own campus, creating a legacy that will impact the community for years and generations to come.
Mountain Christian School began its first year of operation in August of 2006, although the idea of the school began years before. A small group of parents and teachers from the community had a vision for a Christian school in the beautiful White Mountains of northern Arizona. At the time, there were very few educational options available for families, especially for families who wanted their kids to be educated from a Biblical perspective. These community members wanted something more and decided to do something about it.
Throughout the process of praying, planning, and building a school from the ground up, the group members kept coming back to their core priorities – rigorous academics, Biblical worldview training, and a close partnership with parents and families. God provided funding, resources, and the perfect location for a small school. Mountain Christian School opened their doors for the first time in August 2006 with 33 students, 8 staff members, and an excitement about what God would do in and through the school.
Breaking Ground in 2005
Over the next ten years, MCS slowly grew, gradually adding more staff members and teachers to meet the needs of the school. As the school board and administration defined the school’s culture and set forth a vision for the student body, they were excited to see how Mountain Christian school met a real need in the community and was able to minister to families from many different churches, denominations, and backgrounds. In their tenth year, MCS hit a huge milestone, enrolling 100 students for the first time. Over the following years, through the COVID-19 pandemic and a campus relocation, MCS continued to grow. Finding themselves with full classes, waiting lists, and an increasing community interest in the school, the school board began to search for solutions and develop an intentional growth plan.
This plan began in 2023 the addition of a second Kindergarten class. Each year, MCS continues this slow, organic growth by adding another class. As a result of this expansion, MCS is in desperate need for a larger campus. Our current school campus has nine classrooms, as well as a cafeteria and chapel meeting space. In order to accommodate the growing student body, MCS will need a campus with a minimum of 18 classrooms, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, playground, chapel meeting space, and several office spaces.
In 2025, Mountain Christian School was gifted 7 acres of land on Show Low Bluff. This unexpected donation is yet another example of God’s abundant provision. Lordwilling, the school board plans to raise money to build a school campus on this land. Here are a few examples of what a school on that land could look like-
Our intention is to plan and work toward building a new school campus on the Show Low Bluff land. At this point in the process, we do not have finalized building plans or a timeline.
